For those of us who like the wall between church and state, last week had some disturbing news. You know, beyond everything else I have covered in the last few years.
On Tuesday, evangelical leaders gathered in the White House to pray for Donald Trump as impeachment looms. The creepy scene (which you can see below) has a bunch of these "Godly" folks laying hands on Trump as he tries desperately to look pious in an attempt to appease his Christian fan-base.
Among those religious charlatans present were former Republican Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann, American Values President Gary Bauer, James Dobson, Jentezen Franklin, Jack Graham, the constantly idiotic Robert Jeffress, nut-job Greg Laurie, Family Research Council President Tony Perkins, and Paula White (more on her soon).
Jeffress told CBN News that the main purpose of the meeting was for Trump to inform the evangelical leaders of “the continuing, remarkable accomplishments of this administration — especially in areas that are important to evangelicals.”
“I've never seen President Trump more upbeat, positive, and focused than I did in Tuesday's meeting,” he added.
It was also revealed last week that Paula White, the Florida-based televangelist, will become an adviser in the Office of Public Liaison. White has served as Trump's "spiritual adviser" since his presidency began, but now she will lead his Faith and Opportunity Initiative.
White and Trump have known each other since 2002. Speaking about Trump, White said that, “He’s in total control. He’s not at all impulsive — he’s so far ahead of everyone, very much a strategic thinker.”
There are people that actually take this woman seriously? Yikes!
White's delusional (or, more likely, manipulative) statements aside, this is all just another couple of stories in the ongoing saga of conservative Christian politicians trying to forcefully jam their faith into government.
When I wrote about the Christian right's love of Donald Trump, it was very clear that they care less about him and more about their agenda.
These assaults on the wall separating church and state are only going to continue as long as these religious zealots have power. Whatever your politics, we need to vote these lunatics out of office.
