One of the candidates running to represent Alabama in the U.S. Senate said some really interesting stuff this week.
Tommy Tuberville, a retired university football coach running as a Republican for U.S. Senate in Alabama, said this week, "We’ve got to put Jesus and God before everything else. And if we don’t do that we’re going to be brought down to our knees again."
While speaking at his campaign stop in Montgomery on Tuesday, Tuberville stated that if he is elected to the U.S. Senate he would help President Trump fix problems he believes stem from Americans departing from Christian values and practices such as school prayer.
Tuberville's competition for the Republican nomination include U.S. Rep. Bradley Byrne, Secretary of State John Merrill, state Rep. Arnold Mooney of Shelby County, businessman Stanley Adair, and former state Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore.
Roy Moore you may remember. I have written about him before.
All these people seeking the Republican nomination are pursuing a seat currently held by Democrat Doug Jones. Jones is running for reelection.
I certainly hope that the people of Alabama do not decide to replace Jones with some loony Christian theocratic nutjob like Tuberville. Whatever people's politics may be, the last thing we need in the government right now are more lunatics trying to shove Christianity down everyone's throats and shatter the wall between church and state.
