Texas Republicans Pass A "Protect Chick-fil-A" Bill

Holy shit. I mean that literally in this case.

Chick-fil-A has a long history of donating MILLIONS of dollars to anti-LGBTQ groups every year. Despite some backlash, they have always doubled-down on their religiously-motivated hatred of homosexual relationships.

CEO Dan Cathy said, "We are very much supportive of the family — the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that. We operate as a family business ... our restaurants are typically led by families; some are single. We want to do anything we possibly can to strengthen families. We are very much committed to that."

You might not think that is too bad (I would disagree), but then he has also said, "I think we are inviting God's judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say, 'We know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage.' I pray God's mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we have the audacity to define what marriage is about."

He is claiming to know God's mind (something no honest person should be able to claim), and he is making MAJOR decisions based on it. This is dangerous delusion, full stop.

Records show that Chick-fil-A donated more than $1.6M to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, an organization notoriously known to be anti-LGBTQ, in 2017.

Rodney Bullard, working in Chick-fil-A's headquarters, told Business Insider, "The calling for us is to ensure that we are relevant and impactful in the community, and that we're helping children and that we're helping them to be everything that they can be."

"For us, that's a much higher calling than any political or cultural war that's being waged," he continued. "This is really about an authentic problem that is on the ground, that is present and ever present in the lives of many children who can't help themselves."

...Right. We need to devote millions of dollars towards fighting LGBTQ rights rather than the INSANELY rampant problem of, say, the Catholic Church's sexual abuse of children. Behold religious hypocrisy at its finest.

So, finally, I get to today's point. Sorry for all the background.

Republicans in the Texas House of Representatives passed a bill, being called the "Save Chick-fil-A" bill, earlier this week.

The bill is a ridiculous response to the San Antonio City Council's vote to ban Chick-fil-A from the city’s airport. The city council banned them because of the company's history of anti-LGTBQ statements and actions when remarking on the ban.

The new bill forbids the government from taking “any adverse action,” against any person, contractor or business for its membership in or affiliation with a religious organization. And there you have it, despite Chick-fil-A being a corporation, with corporate interests, and plenty of money to throw at politicians, they can be treated as an individual and granted religious exemptions. Meanwhile they throw millions of dollars towards anti-LGBTQ groups.

...While getting corporate tax incentives.

...While possibly getting religious exemptions in the future.

Despite opposition from Democrats, the bill passed. It still needs to be passed by the state senate and then the governor, but this represents a big step in trying to make it law.

It really is insane. Christians have shown themselves to be just as prone, if not more, to committing abuse, and cover-up, than anyone else. They have committed decades of abuse, cover up, torture of children, and criminal activity beyond comprehension. But rather than get their own houses in order, from the Catholics to the Mormons, they would rather focus on stupid, hateful, and cruel things like fighting against LGBTQ rights.

This is the kind of odious behavior we routinely see from people who think they have God on their side.
