Sarah Huckabee Sanders has said many stupid things since she assumed the role of press secretary for the White House. And now, in 2019, she is continuing that maddening trend.
In January, New York congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said, "Millennials and people, you know, Gen Z and all these folks that will come after us are looking up and we’re like, 'The world is going to end in 12 years if we don’t address climate change and your biggest issue is how are we gonna pay for it?'" she said, referencing a recent study published by the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
In response to Ocasio-Cortez's statement, Sarah Huckabee Sanders told Sean Hannity on Fox News, “Look, I don’t think we’re going to listen to her on much of anything, particularly not on matters we’re gonna leave in the hands of a much, much higher authority, and certainly not listen to the freshman congresswoman on when the world may end. We’re focused on what’s happening in the world right now.”
Climate change is happening right now, you unbelievable idiot. The polar vortex that unleashed frigid temperatures on much of North America last week may become the kind of thing we see more frequently as worldwide temperatures rise. But, Sanders and people who think like her are willing to stick their heads in the sand about climate change, because they think God will protect them... while simultaneously allowing natural disasters to kill people in droves.
Sanders then said another religiously motivated, and stupid, thing last week. While being interviewed by the Christian Broadcasting Network, she said, "I think God calls all of us to fill different roles at different times and I think that he wanted Donald Trump to become president, and that's why he's there and I think he has done a tremendous job in supporting a lot of the things that people of faith really care about."
Well, Trump certainly is placating Christians and helping their agenda. But as for God wanting Donald Trump to become president, that is one of the better arguments against the Christian God I have heard in a while.
Regardless of your politics, I hope we can agree that having people like Sanders, who are blinded by religious dogma and are beholden to egomaniacal lunatics like Trump, in political power is dangerous for everyone.
