A French priest was found Saturday after he hanged himself in his home in the French town of Gien.
Pierre-Yves Fumery, 38-years-old, committed suicide after he was questioned about sexual assault allegations involving a child under the age of 15.
Bishop Jacques Blaquart of Orléans said that it was a "moment of suffering and a tragic ordeal."
Members of Fumery’s parish complained of “inappropriate behavior” on the part of the priest toward children. The children Fumery targeted were between 13 and 15 years old.
Bishop Blaquart told Fumery that he should take some time off after the allegations first surfaced but said the claims did not merit being reported to the authorities.
Of course Blaquart said that, that is the Catholic Church's M.O., right?
Fumery had only recently returned to Gien after his break when he committed suicide.
Last month, another 38-year-old priest, committed suicide in the French town of Rouen. Jean-Baptiste Sebe killed himself in his church. Sebe was found in the Saint-Jean XXIII Church after he was accused by a local mother of "indecent behavior and sexual assault" against her adult daughter.
Along with these cases against priests, the most high profile church sex abuse case in France will begin soon in January. Cardinal Philippe Barbarin, archbishop of Lyon, is accused of covering up for priests accused of sexual abuse.
The Catholic Church is facing a reckoning in recent months. The grand jury report in Pennsylvania, the recent reports out of Germany about thousands of children abused by priests, and the other states conducting investigations similar to the one that produced the Pennsylvania report are just some of the issues facing the Catholic Church right now.
Many Catholics and non-Catholics alike are furious with the response from church leaders so far. Pope Francis has resorted to blaming Satan for this crisis. Right... because that explains it all. Forget personal responsibility, and forget the church's institutionalized protections for pedophiliac priests, the Devil is doing it all.
This is just more evidence of how the church and its culture destroys lives. The sooner we are rid of it, the better.
