Pope Francis Thinks It Is Unfair To Hold The Church To Modern Standards

This is one of those stories I like to point to whenever someone tries to tell me that Pope Francis is a "good pope."

He is not. In many of my posts I have pointed out that while he has been good with public relations in the western world (until recently, at least), he is still the corrupt leader of a monstrous organization.

On Tuesday, Francis was speaking to reporters in Estonia when he had the audacity to say that it is unfair to judge the Catholic Church's cover-up of sexual abuse with today's standards. He said sex abuse was also covered up at home and elsewhere in society.

Wait, WHAT?! I thought the whole point of the Catholic Church was that they had a direct line to God and they understand what God wants for people here on Earth. The pope is supposed to be the Vicar of Christ, the keeper of the keys of Saint Peter, the direct representative of Jesus Christ here on Earth.

If the Catholic Church fails to understand what is morally right when it comes to PROTECTING CHILDREN FROM RAPISTS, then what are they good for?

Pope Francis said that, "We ourselves need to be converted. We have to realize that in order to stand by your side we need to change many situations that, in the end, put you off."

What a comfort. The fact is that it looks like the scandals are driving more young people away from the church and this just happens to coincide with a need to make the church more amenable. At no point in the church's history did they think that maybe God wanted them to tackle this problem. It took our "modern standards," the same modern standards that Francis is now asking us to not judge the church by, in order to start holding the Catholic Church accountable for these terrible crimes.

We will be far better off when this dinosaur of an organization finally dies off.
