Last week a pastor in Tennessee was apprehended by police while he was actively trying to rape a 12-year-old girl.
On Thursday, William E. “Tim” Smith, Jr., 48, was discovered by police in a pickup truck with a 12-year-old girl and bottles with several different pills. He was trying to have sex with the girl. Police had been searching a wooded area for a stolen 4-wheeler when they happened upon Smith's parked pickup truck.
Smith is listed as a pastor at the Palmer Church of God in Palmer, TN. On Friday The Tennessee Church of God State Offices confirmed that Smith has been suspended from all ministerial duties in the wake of his arrest.
On Tuesday, Smith's case was sent to a grand jury. He is currently being held on a $200,000 bond while he awaits his next court date on July 9th.
As outlined in the linked report above, Smith "showed no remorse" as he was being arrested. He was literally caught with his pants down and felt he was doing nothing wrong trying to rape a 12-year-old child.
Hopefully when his case is seen before the grand jury he will be given a lengthy sentence, one that will keep him away from children for a long time. And I hope that the child is now safe and receiving any care she may need after this frightening ordeal.
