Pat Robertson Recovering After A Stroke

Pat Robertson, the conservative Christian televangelist behind The 700 Club, suffered a stroke on Friday. The 87-year-old is expected to make a full recovery thanks to quickly administered medical treatment.

A family member recognized the symptoms of a stroke in Robertson around noon on Friday, and he was rushed to the nearest stroke center. When things really go bad even some of the most conservative Christians go with science over prayer, I guess. Were "thoughts and prayers" not enough for Robertson?

At the stroke center Robertson was given the clot-dissolving drug r-tPA. In the news report posted by CBN, which was founded by Robertson, "Within minutes of receiving tPA, Dr. Robertson was awake and responsive and able to move all of his limbs. The neurologist declared the rapid recovery to be a 'tPA miracle.'"

Miracle? No. It was medicine. It was modern medicine which did exactly what it is designed to do. It would have been a miracle if Robertson instead went to a church and was prayed over by a priest and then sprang up and did a jig. That would be a miracle. The only thing miraculous in this situation is that people can be so wantonly flippant about the power of modern medicine and scientific advancement while doggedly holding onto superstitious belief and wishful thinking. Wait, did I say "miraculous"? I meant, "mind-numbingly insane".
